Bishop's Council and Directors
Bishop's Council is the standing committee for the Diocesan Synod and its members are directors of the Blackburn Diocesan Board of Finance (BDBF) Limited Company.
The roles of Bishop Council include
- To advise the Bishop
- To plan the business of Synod and set its agenda
- To advise Synod on matters of policy and forward planning
- To advise Synod on the resources available and recommend a budget for the BDBF
There are a maximum of 27 members of Bishop's Council who are supported at meetings by the Diocesan Secretary and other Diocesan Officers as required.
Ex-Officio Members of Bishop’s Council are:
- The Bishops of Blackburn, Burnley and Lancaster
- The Archdeacons of Blackburn and Lancaster
- The Dean of Blackburn
- The Chair and Vice-chair of the Board of Finance
- The Chair and Vice-chair of the Diocesan Synod House of Clergy
- The Chair and Vice-chair of the Diocesan Synod House of Laity
- The Chair of the DIocesan Property Committee
Other Members of Bishop's Council are:
- 2 members of Clergy in the Blackburn Archdeaconry elected by Diocesan Synod
- 2 members of Clergy in the Lancaster Archdeaconry elected by Diocesan Synod
- 4 members who are laity in the Blackburn Archdeaconry elected by Diocesan Synod
- 4 members who are laity in the Lancaster Archdeaconry elected by Deanery Synod
- up to 2 members may be co-opted
