The development of Vision 2026 over the last six years has seen a renewed focus on mission and growth across many of the parishes in our diocese. There has been a great sense of people engaging in new initiatives to share the hope and love of Jesus, with those who are not-yet members of our churches.
One very effective way to connect with our communities is through focused periods of outreach over one day, a weekend, or even a week. This is often known as a ‘parish mission’, and can lead to new relationships being formed, seeds of faith being planted, people joining our churches, and communities being blessed.
For many though, the thought of doing this can seem a little overwhelming. ‘Where do we start?’ or ‘We would love to but we haven’t got the resources’ are common obstacles to mission events.
With that in mind, the diocesan Parish Mission Team is able to work with your parish to develop and deliver accessible, non-threatening initiatives to share the love of Jesus with your communities. These initiatives will also provide a pathway for people to come along to a special event, perhaps a ‘guest service’, where they will be able to hear an engaging presentation of the Christian faith. The team will support you through planning, delivery and follow-up so that you have support in every stage of the process.
The Parish Mission Team is made up of group of clergy and lay people, representing a range of traditions, who are experienced in planning and delivering effective parish outreach and mission events. They also come with their own gifts of evangelism to support your work. They can also act as a non-judgmental advisor, encourager and sounding board for clergy and PCCs.
To ask for support from the team, in the first instance please contact the diocesan Parish Renewal Lead, Rev’d Steve Haskett, via steve.haskett@blackburn.anglican.org or 07379 195763.
