On Tuesday, October 17 there is a worldwide Day of Prayer and Fasting Israel and Gaza and parishes are encouraged to participate.
Rt Rev. Philip North, Bishop of Blackburn, has written to all parishes to make them aware of the event.
In his letter he said: "We are all painfully aware of the growing humanitarian crisis unfolding before our eyes in Israel and Palestine.
"Israel is still reeling from the appalling Hamas attacks of last week. We now face the horrifying prospect of a ground invasion in Gaza with inevitable and widespread humanitarian consequences.
"The Heads of the churches in Jerusalem have invited the worldwide Church to join a Day of Prayer and Fasting on Tuesday October 17th. You may well wish to join in yourself, to invite your people to join and circulate the day around your own networks."
