The Diocesan Board of Education is delighted to announce the appointment of Iain Parks as our new Director of Education, following the change of role of Stephen Whittaker who is now Diocesan Secretary.
Iain is a successful serving headteacher in a church school in Liverpool Diocese and has worked in the education sector and the church across a variety of contexts in different parts of the country.
He is Chair of Partnership and Accounting Officer of the school-centred 'initial teacher training partnership' for Liverpool City Council and has recently been instrumental in the formation of a charity that seeks to meet the needs of the most vulnerable in society.
Prior to his work in schools, he has successfully worked within the church in a variety of roles including as a Bishop’s Chaplain, project worker and youth work.
Iain has a deep Christian faith and will be a strong leader to develop the work of the Board of Education as it seeks to deliver the aspirations of Vision 2026 and beyond.
He is keen to see our young people thrive, developing strong, creative leaders and ensuring all have opportunities to explore faith and encounter Jesus. Away from work he loves spending with his young family and enjoys many sporting activities including football and golf.
Iain will take up post from September.
Commenting on the appointment Rt Rev. Philip North, Bishop of Blackburn, said: "The role of Director of Education is absolutely critical for the Diocese.
"Our wonderful family of church schools and our ministry in inspiring children and young people lies at the very heart of Vision 2026.
"I am overjoyed that Iain Parks is going to be joining the team to lead in this work. He brings a rich faith in the Gospel, huge enthusiasm and a massive passion for justice.
"Our schools and parishes will love working with him and I look forward to this area of our common life continuing to develop and expand under his leadership.”
Archdeacon David Picken, Chair of the Board of Education, added: “I am delighted that Iain is coming to join our team.
"He will bring a fantastic blend to the role of Director of Education; a passion for the distinctive contribution of Church schools based on his track record as a school leader and a love for Jesus Christ which is evident from his conversation. I very much look forward to working with him.”
