Generous NHS staff give time to decorate a Lancashire church hall

NHS staff in Lancashire turned their hands to a new skill recently – decorating!

The Fylde-based staff put down their medical instruments and pens and paper to pick up paintbrushes and spend a day decorating the church hall at St John the Evangelist Church in Little Thornton, making a splendid job of the much-used community resource.

Parish priest, Rev Jane Atkinson, who is pictured third from the left with the NHS team in our photograph, was very grateful for the support from them, as well as her own parishioners who did all the preparatory work.

Jane explained: “One of my congregation works at the local NHS, and he had arranged with his NHS manager to allow a number of volunteers to come and help us paint the hall.

“The NHS staff came for one day but leading up to that there was a team of volunteers from church doing as much prep work as could be done.”

More support meanwhile came from a local funeral director, JT Byrne of Thornton, who helped the refurbishment effort by buying the paint and covering the cost of a professional painter to decorate the hall’s ceiling.

“It’s been a true team effort, and the hall is looking fab: it was a tremendous week,” added Jane.
