You may or may not know that this year is “Play the organ year” where there has finally been a recognition that the severe lack of organists needs addressing and fixing and there are events planned up and down the country for this.
One of these is a “Come and play the Organ” session at Clitheroe Parish Church (St Mary’s) between 10.30am and 12.30pm on Saturday June 7. You might simply be interested to know how an organ works and how it makes all the different sounds or you might just want to have a try.
There will be a very short informal presentation, mini recital and then the chance for anyone to have a go. Pianists have an advantage and if anyone wanted to take things further, basic piano skills would be required, but don’t let that put you off! If you are an existing pianist, bring some music along and see how it transcribes to an organ console, if you aren’t, just come and have a go!
This is a free event open to all ages. It would be great to see some children there as they are the future of our Churches. Please spread the word to anyone you know who you think this might interest. The hope is that some will want to consider learning this fantastic instrument but most importantly, come and be nosey and make some noise!
