Get ready to witness our 'Parishes in Bloom' at the Cathedral across four days

‘Parishes in Bloom’ is a fantastic centenary event that will see churches from across the county bring parish life in flower form into Blackburn Cathedral from Friday, August 21 until Monday, August 24.

All are warmly invited to attend this special exhibition, organised by the Friends of Blackburn Cathedral, which will transform the iconic building with stunning floral displays.

Parishes taking part come from as far north as Bolton-le-Sands, down to Slaidburn, across to Kirkham, and as far south as Standish, alongside many others from right across the region.

  • This Sunday, tune in to Joe Wilson's programme on BBC Lancashire between 6-10am for a report on the Parishes in Bloom event or listen after here: https://bbc.in/4xaQL3z

Ahead of the exhibition, lead organiser on behalf of the Friends, Canon Andy Pratt MBE, said: "Excitement is really building ahead of this special event, which is being held as part of the centenary celebrations of both Blackburn Cathedral and the Diocese of Blackburn. The exhibition is only on for four days so we urge everyone to mark the dates in their diaries!

There are so many churches from across Lancashire taking part, and each will showcase life in their parish through stunning creations, bringing to life the amazing talents of dedicated volunteers. We hope visitors will enjoy seeing what a truly glorious county Lancashire is."

The Rev Canon Andrew Horsfall, Interim Dean of Blackburn said: "Our centenary year has been filled with commemorative events and this exhibition will certainly be a highlight of our special year. We are really looking forward to seeing the results of months of planning, preparation, and creative collaboration. The spectacular floral displays created by our friends across the diocese will certainly be a sight to behold. We are keen to welcome as many people as possible through our doors to experience – through flowers – all that our wonderful county has to offer."
