The new Area Dean for Leyland Deanery (part of The Church of England in Lancashire) was commissioned recently by the Bishop of Burnley, Rt Rev Philip North.

Rev Andy Meeson of St John’s Leyland is now the Area Dean – a role that gives him additional responsibilities alongside those in his parish involving the care of people and church buildings for the whole Deanery.

The Commissioning Service took place at St John’s Church and was also attended by the Archdeacon of Blackburn, The Venerable Mark Ireland.

Rev Andy Meeson said: “The opportunity to serve as Area Dean is special to me and it was a privilege to be commissioned by Bishop Philip.

“It will also be a privilege to work with the Bishops and Archdeacons of the Diocese as together we support the clergy and lay people in Leyland Deanery.

Reflecting our Diocesan ‘Vision 2026 Healthy Churches Transforming Communities’, Rev Andy concluded: “Together we will continue to make healthy churches where people belong, find a home, experience the transforming power of Jesus and also seek to transform their communities with His love.”
