The Church of England in Lancashire has released a brand new 'Blue Christmas' video to bring some comfort to those who may be finding the build-up to Christmas a struggle.

For many, Christmas can be a time that brings back memories of grief and pain and that may be especially so after this difficult year.

Abroad, wars continue in Ukraine and Israel/Gaza; while closer to home many are deeply affected by the ongoing cost of living crisis.

For others it may be because of illness or the loss of a loved one this past year that this Christmas will be a quieter one than in the past. Whatever your situation, as Christians we believe the Christ-child brings light even into the deepest darkness and that's why we present this brand-new Reflection available now on our YouTube channel.

It is led by Fr Neil Kelley from St Laurence's Church in Chorley; with an introduction and closing blessing from Rt Rev. Dr Jill Duff, the Anglican Bishop of Lancaster and with contributions from Cornelius Asghar who is currently an ordinand in training on placement at St Laurence and Elspeth Butler a long-standing member of the Chorley congregation.

Bishop Jill says: "Christmas can be a challenging time especially for those of us who have loved and lost and we hope people might find peace and that sense of Jesus' presence this Christmas as you take time to watch our Reflection."

Fr Neil adds: "We are very conscious that this is a time of great excitement and joy, but for others it’s a time of intense loneliness and pain. It may be that you find Christmas is difficult because of painful memories, it may be that you are facing some mental health issues, and just cannot put yourself at the moment in a place of joy and happiness.

"Perhaps you are struggling financially or this is the is your first Christmas without a loved one. Whatever your situation we hope this Reflection will bring you some comfort."
