A major new textile art exhibition is coming to Blackburn Cathedral.

‘Threads through Creation’ consists of 12 enormous, embroidered silk panels exploring the story of creation in the Bible by textile artist Jacqui Parkinson.

Jacqui has created a vibrant narrative with spectacular designs that are highly engaging for everyone – and great fun for children too.

Blackburn is the latest venue in a tour of 20 cathedrals.

The textile panels are huge – 1.5m/8ft high by as much as 4m/13ft wide. Jacqui uses layers of silk, hand-dyed materials, metallic leathers and gold leaf, miles of thread – and more than eight million stitches!

The Dean of Blackburn, the Very Reverend Peter Howell-Jones, said: “People enjoy the peace and beauty of the Cathedral, and now is a particularly good time to visit. Jacqui Parkinson’s exhibition introduces extraordinary colour and pattern into the creation story.

"Whatever your age or background, you’ll find inspiration, pleasure, excitement and a bit of fun too in these astonishing textile panels.”

  • ‘Threads through Creation’ is on show at Blackburn Cathedral from March 6 to April 14. Admission free, donations gratefully received.
  • Please check www.blackburncathedral.com for occasional closures / service times.
